about

This song was written by Laura and Tanner Goheen to support and commemorate those impacted by the Oso mudslide tragedy.

On Mar 22, 2014, life in Rooms 5 and 7 at Darrington Elementary in Darrington, WA changed forever. The OSO landslide affected the community in many ways. But for the 3rd and 4th graders the effects were unique. When the students left school on Friday the 21st, they had no reason to believe their two teachers wouldn't be at school the following week. But the landslide changed things.

One teacher lost her 14 year old son, Denver Harris, in the slide. While the two classes have held each other closely, they have adjusted to a new teacher as well. As part of the healing process, Laura Goheen, teacher to the 3/4 class, wrote a song to help raise funds for her beloved teaching partner, Randi Lester - mother to Denver Harris.

With the classes joining in, they wanted to share the song publicly in hopes to financially help the surviving mother and two sisters. While the song is a bonus, it's really not about the song. We're asking that you donate, download, and share the link - it's about healing and moving forward.

A donation of at least a dollar is required for download, feel free to give more. If you are unable to donate but would like a copy of the song click on "Contact Laura and Tim."

All net proceeds from this song will go to Randi Lester. Hope you enjoy the song and please keep Randi in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank You

lyrics

HOMETOWN STRONG

It’s been said “when the going gets tough that the
tough get going” through the real hard stuff

hometown shaken by things unthinkable,
mountain so big that the heart is torn in two

never has their been a time as this
could anyone survive the pain

but we’re Oh so proud we are Oh so brave
We can see beyond the despair and say
we have OSO hope we have OSO love
we will stand together Hometown Strong.

Unsung heroes band together
morning ‘til night taking care of their own

neighboring towns all around would come
calling all to rise let your voice be known

working with friends through tears and prayers
we will persevere

cuz we’re Oh so proud we are Oh so brave
We can see beyond the despair and say
we have OSO hope we have OSO love
we will stand together Hometown Strong.

with destruction and confusion
we have hope in resolution
We will overcome

but the funny thing is this small town hometown
won’t give up
When all seems lost
remember we will carry on We Are

Oh so proud we are Oh so brave
We can see beyond the despair and say
we have OSO hope we have OSO love
we will stand together Hometown Strong.

We are Hometown proud we are hometown brave
We can see beyond to rebuild and say
we have hometown hope we have hometown love
we will stand together Hometown Strong.
